The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) has suspended the license of Nexus Family Healing, a youth psychiatric facility located in East Bethel, effective immediately. This action follows a DHS investigation that uncovered multiple safety violations, including unreported suspected maltreatment, improper medication administration, and inadequate supervision of residents.
According to a WARN notice from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, approximately 100 employees are temporarily out of work due to the facility’s closure. The shutdown is planned in two phases, from May 29 to June 11, and June 12 to 25.
City Administrator Matt Look expressed concern over the situation, noting that the facility had called 911 nearly 200 times in the past year. He emphasized the city’s sympathy for the affected youth and families and highlighted the need for improved programming and safety measures at the center.
Nexus Family Healing has the right to appeal the temporary suspension by requesting a contested case hearing within five calendar days of receiving the notice.
